Civilian Employer Helps Out Gunners for Deployment

7th Toronto Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, currently has several members deployed in Afghanistan and one is Captain Nav Grewal who took a two year leave of absence from his job to make it happen. Capt Grewal brought up his skills by working with 2nd Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (RCHA) as a gun-line officer for a year prior to deployment with the Guns in Theatre. His civilian employer, Cole Engineering, demonstrates their support for Capt Grewal and the Canadian Forces by wearing red “support the troops” shirts as seen in the photo. “Our company is over twice the size now so there are lots of red shirts in the office on the last Friday of each month,” says Gerry Lynch, P.Eng, a manager with the company. When Capt Grewal returns after his tour there will be a lot of new faces to meet in the office, but he’ll have a bright visual reminder of their support while he was away. This is a great example of how civilian employers are supporting reserve soldiers. About the author: Captain Tom Greer is 7th Toronto Regiment, RCA’s Unit Public Affairs Officer.
